ABOUT TE KOOTI / HISTORY

NGĀ URI O TE KOOTI RIKIRANGI

Of Ngati Maru, Ngati Kaipoho, Ngai Tawhiri (Hapū) and Rongowhakaata (Iwi) descent, he was born at Pa-O-Kahu (Turanganui-a-Kiwa) under a prediction by tohunga Te Toiroa of Nukutaurua.

In March 2017, Te Tira Whakaari hosted its inaugural Te Kooti Symposium to celebrate his contribution to contemporary Māori visual art.  This was made possible with support from key contributors including Te Tairāwhiti Museum, Creative NZ, KE Design, and Toihoukura.  The full video is included here.  Check this page for further upcoming events.
