Vision, Mission, Purpose
Tēnei te tira hou tēnei haramai nei, Nā te rongopai nā te rangimārie
Our vision draws on the words of Te Kooti Rikirangi in his waiata pinepine te kura which reflects his desire to return to Turanga. For the Trust Te Tira Hou reflects our vision to uphold the mana of Te Kooti Rikirangi and to ensure his legacy, his kupu and his story continues to inform and influence the next generation of leaders.
Our mission also draws on the words of Te Kooti Rikirangi, Ka poua taku maungarongo ki te whenua, ko te whakapono ma koutou e whai …I leave peace to the land in the hope that you will follow.
For the Trust these words guide how we operate as a Trust. It is upon us as trustees to ensure the Trust honours Te Kooti’s legacy by promoting peace and understanding in everything we do, to challenge what does not honour the integrity of his legacy, and to support and educate future generations.
Our purpose is to apply the Trust fund towards educational activities that:
- Increase the public’s appreciation of the history of Te Kooti Rikirangi as part of the history of Māori and the history of the interaction between Māori in particular Te Aitanga a Māhaki and Affiliates, Rongowhakaata, Te Whānau ā Kai and Ngā Ariki Kaiputahi, and the Crown in New Zealand and Turanga.
- Promote racial harmony and social cohesion for the general benefit of the community
