We have a beautifully illustrated chapter book almost ready for delivery, which shares the story of the unjust imprisonment and eventual exile of Te Kooti Rikirangi to Wharekauri (Chatham Islands) and his famous return.
The book has been reproduced in both English and te reo Māori and is aimed at 8-11 year old tamariki.
The book will be available online and distributed in hardcopy to selected kura across Aotearoa.
We'll update you here and on social when it's printed.
Te Kooti was apparently captured three times, as a result of jealousy and scorn, or perhaps for the express purpose of removing potential troublemakers ‘until the question of the confiscation of land should be settled’, as stated by Leonard Williams.
